City Council Hearing on Criminal Search Ban December 8, 2022

As many of you know, there is now a pending piece of legislation in the New York City Council known as Intro 632 to ban property owners and managers from performing criminal background searches against prospective tenants. Click Here to Read the Full Statute. On December 8, 2022, the NYC Council Committee on Civil & Human Rights will be holding a hearing regarding Intro 632.

It is extremely important that you let your voice be heard on this critical issue, which will change the landscape of Co-op ownership. The PCCC leadership and several of its members will be testifying at this hearing. We will be requesting an exemption from the purview of this statute in light of the distinct relationship between Co-op homeowners and rental tenants.

We strongly encourage you to watch this hearing on the video link here Here

If you wish to submit written testimony on behalf of your Co-op or yourself use this link Here.

Finally, if you wish to submit your opinion on this proposed legislation you can find and email your Council Member here: Here
