As we announced in June 2021, the NYS Legislature passed an extension of the J-51 Tax Credit program, which would effectively provide much-needed tax relief for many working and middle-class Co-ops that need it the most.
In order to become effective, this legislation requires the approval of the NY City Council. Much to everyone’s amazement, the extension of this popular program has been stalled in the NY City Council. The PCCC has met with and reached out to numerous elected officials to try to move this legislation forward. At this point in time, the J-51 program is effectively defunct.
This matter was the subject in a recent Habitat Weekly article where the efforts of the PCCC were prominently mentioned. Both Co-President Warren Schreiber and Legal Counsel Geoffrey Mazel were quoted in this article.
