URGENT: ACT AGAINST INTRO. 2047 (Criminal Search Ban)

We have just received information that the New York City Council will be voting on Intro. 2047, a bill that would effectively end the ability of Landlords/Co-ops from doing a criminal background check on prospective tenants/shareholders. The bill is far-reaching and would bar the ability to look into a prospective tenants/shareholders criminal background, except if they are listed on a sex offender registry in New York State.

The PCCC, along with many like-minded organizations have vehemently opposed this legislation and have contacted several NY City Council members and urged them to oppose this legislation. Similar bills were passed in other parts of the country and are now subject to legal challenge.

The Rent Stabilization Association has set up a link where you can contact your local Council Member and express your opposition to this bill.  We strongly urge you to contact your Council Member immediately. They need to know this bill is a threat to the quality of life in the Co-op Community.

We will keep you apprised of any new developments in this matter.
